Welcome to VOCIFERY, my attempt to re-watch every piece of media in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – every movie, every television series, every one-shot, every web series, and every tie-in comic book, using the Wikipedia entry on the MCU as a guide, before the release of Avengers 4 in May 2019. Join me as I write my thoughts about what I’m seeing, as I see it!
Also, spoilers follow – if you’re worried about that kind of thing, view before reading.
Marvel’s The Avengers tie-in comic (2014)
On the one hand, I’m disappointing that this is – yet another – pointless rehashing of a perfectly good film, with most of the good scenes and most of the context removed; for example, Bruce Banner arrives on the helicarrier and immediately instructs Fury to access a bunch of medical machines looking for gamma rays – in the movie, Banner is shown around a little and Fury explains why he is there before the good doctor gets down to work.

But on the other hand, I do wonder what a version of The Avengers that was cut along similar lines to the comics would look like. The comic book is fairly readable, if a little light on detail and abrupt at times. Would a film version of the comic book be watchable? My gut instinct is “no” but then maybe I’m wrong about that.
Maybe I’ll edit one together someday.
For now, I’m just happy to be past another of these seemingly-pointless tie-in comic books that aim only to recap the film ahead of the next one (in this case, Avengers: Age Of Ultron).
The Avengers was a perfectly good film. Just watch that instead of bothering with this book.
