Welcome to VOCIFERY, my attempt to re-watch every piece of media in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – every movie, every television series, every one-shot, every web series, and every tie-in comic book, using the Wikipedia entry on the MCU as a guide, before the release of Avengers 4 in May 2019. Join me as I write my thoughts about what I’m seeing, as I see it!
Also, spoilers follow – if you’re worried about that kind of thing, view before reading.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones tie-in comic (2015)
I mean, yet another pointless tie-in comic. You think I’d start avoiding these by now.
Released just over a month ahead of Netflix’s series Jessica Jones, this comic book really only serves to introduce the character in a fairly truncated way – the entire book is only around a dozen pages long – and doesn’t tell us much about the character beyond “has superpowers” and “has a good heart”.
Maybe the most interesting thing about it is that it seems to imply that she was aware of Turk – something of a recurring character across all of the Netflix/Marvel series – and was aware of the presence of Daredevil before we met her on her own show. And if she mentioned that little tidbit on the show, I’ve forgotten.
We’ll find out next week when we start watching.
As a comic book fan, it is exciting to see any book written and drawn by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos; the pair worked together on the phenomenal Jessica Jones book Alias from 2001 to 2004, and reunited for a recent run on the character that ended when Bendis jumped ship from Marvel to DC.
But beyond that, there is really nothing here that adds anything to the wider MCU. Consider this fine to avoid.
