MOVIE REVIEW Mr & Mrs Smith

As you probably have heard, Mr and Mrs Smith is the new film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, in which they play spy’s who end up married to each other, after a chance meeting in Columbia. The thing is neither one knows the other is a spy – and this lack of knowledge about the others’ secret lives is absolutely destroying their marriage.

MUSIC REVIEW System Of A Down – Mezmerize

Its been a solid 2 years since System of a Down released anything to the public, but their latest release, Mezmerize, was worth the wait. The thing is, its not worth it for the reasons you would think – and this isn’t the System of a Down you rocked out to 2 years ago.

MOVIE REVIEW Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy

Within the first 15 minutes of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy – the new movie directed by Garth Jennings and based on the book by Douglas Adams – I had already decided that this movie was fantastic.

MUSIC REVIEW Head Automatica – Decadence

Head Automatica is the [apparently] much anticipated collaboration of vocalist Daryl Palumbo (formerly of hardcore band Glassjaw), and electronic whiz Dan ‘The Automator’ Nakamura (formerly of Handsome Boy Modelling School and Gorillaz). Their debut album, ‘Decadence’, was released in the States in August 2004.

MOVIE REVIEW Collateral

… a guy gets into a taxi, and says “Hey, I need to make 6 stops – if I pay you $600, will you drive me around all night?” … I know it sounds like the start of a joke, but this is the very serious premise of Collateral, starring Tom Cruise and Oscar-nominated Jamie Foxx, with a fantastic supporting cast including Peter Berg, Jada Pinkett Smith, Mark Ruffalo, Bruce McGill and Javier Bardem.

Parachute Festival 2005 – SUNDAY, MONDAY

PARACHUTEMUSIC.COM STORE

Having slept through the morning meeting for the second consecutive morning, I decided to make my way to the Parachute Music store and have a look around for CDs and stuff – I decided to buy Detour 180’s new album, ‘Fighting For You’ (review is forthcoming, as I’m not sure what to think about it yet) for myself, and I was going to buy the latest CD by a band called Underoath, for Harley – when I got to the store, I was dismayed to find that Underoath was sold out – so I texted Harley and asked him to call me when he got a chance, thinking he would be in church (since it was around 10am). I went to the t-shirt table (where they were selling band t-shirts – and I thought about buying a black and pink Day of Fire t-shirt for 0.003 seconds) and suddenly my phone went off.

Parachute Festival 2005 – SATURDAY

Last years showers were fairly good, so I thought I would do a quick review on this years showers. So here it is: Cold, low pressure, and cramped – but the line moved quickly and I felt refreshed afterwards, so it was all good.

Parachute Festival 2005 – THURSDAY, FRIDAY

JAMES REALISES HE FORGOT HIS TICKETS

Having left town on Thursday evening, Nat, James and myself were travelling in Nat’s car, while Seth, Ruth and Kayte were in Seth’s car, and on the Brynderwyn hills we left them behind – eventually stopping on the North Shore at Wendy’s for some dinner (I had the Big Bacon Classic – absolute perfection). While we were there, James suddenly started grinning, and kind of laughing. Wondering what was up, Nat and I started questioning him – as it turns out, he had written himself a list of things to take with him, one of which was his tickets. When we asked where his tickets are now, he replied that they were on his chest of drawers in his room.

All Is Not Lost

Last night saw the launch of the hottest new show around, Lost – the show follows a group of airplane crash survivors who find themselves stranded on a deserted island, 1000 miles away from where rescuers think they are. To make matters worse, the last people to crash here sent out an unanswered signal 16 years earlier – and were never found. To make matters even worse, there is some kind of monster on the interior of the island, which appears to have killed all the previous group of people who were here.

REVIEW Big Day Out 2004

The one key thing to remember about this BDO is that I wasn’t actually planning to go – its just that when the time rolled around, I had talked myself into a bunch of the bands, and had heard more from them all – like, during December and January, leading up to the festival, I managed to pick up copies of Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Elephunk’, Lostprophets’ ‘Start Something’ and ‘The Fake Sound of Progress’, Muse’s ‘Absolution’ and ‘Origin of Symmetry’ (all of which now rank among my favourite albums of the last 10 years), as well as Metallica’s ‘St Anger’ and The Strokes’ album. I ended up buying my ticket about 2 days before the show, and catching a ride down to it with my Mum (she was going to Aucks anyway). Oh, and I was by myself as well. Here’s what I managed to see:
