Parachute Festival 2005 – SUNDAY, MONDAY

PARACHUTEMUSIC.COM STORE

Having slept through the morning meeting for the second consecutive morning, I decided to make my way to the Parachute Music store and have a look around for CDs and stuff – I decided to buy Detour 180’s new album, ‘Fighting For You’ (review is forthcoming, as I’m not sure what to think about it yet) for myself, and I was going to buy the latest CD by a band called Underoath, for Harley – when I got to the store, I was dismayed to find that Underoath was sold out – so I texted Harley and asked him to call me when he got a chance, thinking he would be in church (since it was around 10am). I went to the t-shirt table (where they were selling band t-shirts – and I thought about buying a black and pink Day of Fire t-shirt for 0.003 seconds) and suddenly my phone went off.

Parachute Festival 2005 – SATURDAY

Last years showers were fairly good, so I thought I would do a quick review on this years showers. So here it is: Cold, low pressure, and cramped – but the line moved quickly and I felt refreshed afterwards, so it was all good.

Parachute Festival 2005 – THURSDAY, FRIDAY

JAMES REALISES HE FORGOT HIS TICKETS

Having left town on Thursday evening, Nat, James and myself were travelling in Nat’s car, while Seth, Ruth and Kayte were in Seth’s car, and on the Brynderwyn hills we left them behind – eventually stopping on the North Shore at Wendy’s for some dinner (I had the Big Bacon Classic – absolute perfection). While we were there, James suddenly started grinning, and kind of laughing. Wondering what was up, Nat and I started questioning him – as it turns out, he had written himself a list of things to take with him, one of which was his tickets. When we asked where his tickets are now, he replied that they were on his chest of drawers in his room.

All Is Not Lost

Last night saw the launch of the hottest new show around, Lost – the show follows a group of airplane crash survivors who find themselves stranded on a deserted island, 1000 miles away from where rescuers think they are. To make matters worse, the last people to crash here sent out an unanswered signal 16 years earlier – and were never found. To make matters even worse, there is some kind of monster on the interior of the island, which appears to have killed all the previous group of people who were here.

REVIEW Big Day Out 2004

The one key thing to remember about this BDO is that I wasn’t actually planning to go – its just that when the time rolled around, I had talked myself into a bunch of the bands, and had heard more from them all – like, during December and January, leading up to the festival, I managed to pick up copies of Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Elephunk’, Lostprophets’ ‘Start Something’ and ‘The Fake Sound of Progress’, Muse’s ‘Absolution’ and ‘Origin of Symmetry’ (all of which now rank among my favourite albums of the last 10 years), as well as Metallica’s ‘St Anger’ and The Strokes’ album. I ended up buying my ticket about 2 days before the show, and catching a ride down to it with my Mum (she was going to Aucks anyway). Oh, and I was by myself as well. Here’s what I managed to see:

REVIEW Big Day Out 2003

Determined to put the past behind me, and on my own for the first time ever, I headed to Auckland for my 6th consecutive Big Day Out. It was a pretty good day in all. Even though nothing much happened.

REVIEW Big Day Out 2002

Just another standard day at the Big Day Out – this year I went along with my sister, and my buddy Nate again. Not too much transpired – except for when my wallet got lost with $200 cash inside it. I was pretty hungry and thirsty for the rest of the day. Oh – and it rained, which sucked.

REVIEW Big Day Out 2001

Possibly the weirdest BDO I’ve been to – absolutely nothing of any particular note happened, except for during Limp Bizkit’s set where they had stop to get some poor girl out from in the mosh pit. 2001 was the year when a girl had a heart attack in Sydney during Limp Bizkit’s set, and they had to take the Bizkit off the rest of the tour circuit, for safety reasons.

REVIEW Big Day Out 2000

To bring in the millennium, Big Day Out got a whole heap more international acts, and tried its damnedest to give us the best BDO ever – and they almost pulled it off. One funny encounter that happened this year: we (me, my sister and my ex-girlfriend) ran into Jon Bridges (of Ice TV fame) again. He didn’t remember us though. I also fell over twice in the moshpit … read on:

REVIEW Big Day Out 1999

In 1998, the Big Day Out took a break, but in 1999 it was back with a vengeance, with 3 of the biggest acts of 1998 in tow. This years BDO was highlighted by the fact that we (as in me, my sister, and my ex-girlfriend) met Jon Bridges (who was hosting Ice TV at the time), and talked to him for a while, and also by the fact that I sat and talked to the singer of one of the bands for a while – I just can’t remember which band it was. Some of the musical highlights:
